Exemptions & Waivers

Please note that exemptions are not considered payment under state payment guidelines. A student who does not yet have the exemption applied to their account may still be subject to cancellation if they fail to meet the state payment requirements.

Texas Education Code section 54.2001 requires that in order for a student to receive exemptions and waivers, the student must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements for grade point average and not be considered enrolled in excessive hours. The appeals process is outlined under the Appeals Process Service.

Texas Education Code section 54.2002 requires that a student be enrolled in state-funded courses in order to receive exemptions and waivers. Non-resident students residing out of state and enrolled in only online courses may not be eligible for exemptions or waivers.
