Texas Tech University has a Third Attempt Rule. This rule applies when a student takes the same course more than two times. In some cases, students may be able to request an exemption from this rule.
An exemption may be available for students who must repeat a required course during their final semester before graduation.
Who May Qualify
You may be eligible for a Third Attempt Rule Exemption if all of the following are true:
-
The course is required for your degree
-
You are in your final semester before graduation
-
You need to repeat the course to complete your degree requirements
Not all courses or situations qualify. Each request is reviewed before a decision is made.
Required Forms
To request a Third Attempt Rule Exemption, you must complete both of the following steps:
-
Submit the Third Attempt Rule Exemption Form
This form explains why you need to repeat the course and confirms that it is required for your degree.
-
Submit the Third Attempt Rule Service Request
This service request allows your exemption request to be reviewed and processed.
Both the form and the service request are required. If one item is missing, your request may be delayed or denied.
Review Process
Once your request is submitted, it will be reviewed to confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements. You may be contacted if more information is needed.
Approval is not automatic. Submitting a request does not guarantee an exemption.
