What is Differential Tuition?
Differential Tuition is a flexible tuition model that relates the tuition rate to the cost of delivery for the instruction based on the College providing the course. Unlike some Differential Tuition models at other institutions, Texas Tech University will charge based on the course rather than a student's major. This will ensure no students are charged different costs for the same course.
Why is Texas Tech implementing this?
This model will allow Texas Tech University to continue its strategic growth and academic quality, while remaining an affordable option for every student who wishes to attend.
Do other schools charge Differential Tuition?
Yes. A growing number of schools charge differential tuition, specifically research institutions like Texas Tech.
When did Differential Tuition go into effect?
Differential Tuition began in the Fall semester of 2016.
Is this plan going to affect all students?
Both graduate and undergraduate students will be charged the new tuition rates as adjusted for amounts formerly assessed as course or ADIA (Academic Department Instruction Assessment) fees. Additional supplemental differential tuition will only apply to students taking undergraduate courses in Business or Engineering.
What are the funds from supplemental differential tuition being used for?
Both the Rawls College of Business and Whitacre College of Engineering plan to focus on hiring additional faculty members to reduce their current undergraduate student-to-faculty ratios.
Will Differential Tuition affect my financial aid package?
It is possible that Differential Tuition will increase the specific aid eligibility of each student as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
